Plan a Visit
Everything you might want to know before a first Sunday — including the fact that you will not be singled out.
One service, Sunday morning
We meet at 10:30am at the Grandview YMCA in Millbrook. Come early if you would like a coffee first — plenty of people do.
TODO (Grace): how long the service runs, and what the music is actually like. Say it in your own words — a visitor is trying to picture the room.
Your first Sunday, start to finish
- Park. The Grandview YMCA, 4700 Camp Grandview Rd, Millbrook. TODO (Grace): which lot, and where to go if it is busy with YMCA traffic.
- Come in. TODO (Grace): which entrance, and whether someone will be there to meet people. Meeting in a YMCA is unusual enough that this needs saying out loud.
- Bring your kids, or check them in. TODO (Grace): what is on offer for children, what ages, and make clear that keeping kids in worship is equally normal.
- Sit anywhere. Nobody owns a seat.
- Leave, or stay. You will not be asked to stand up, introduce yourself, or fill anything in.
The questions people actually ask
What should I wear?
TODO (Grace): answer specifically. “Come as you are” is true but it is also what every church says — naming what people genuinely turn up in lands better.
You meet at a YMCA — what is that like?
TODO (Grace): the question a Grace visitor has that most church visitors do not. Answer it head on — which room, what it looks like set up for worship, whether you need a YMCA membership (you do not).
Will I be singled out as a visitor?
TODO (Grace): the most common unspoken fear. Answer it directly.
Do I have to give money?
No. TODO (Grace): then explain how giving works for those who choose to.
I am not sure what I believe. Is that a problem?
TODO (Grace): “Open Hearts. Open Minds. Open Doors.” is the answer — write it in your own voice.
